How to make an Augmented Reality Picture Frame

Want to learn how to make augmented reality picture frames in 2 hours? In this course we will be learning how to create augmented reality portal art and augmented picture frames. We will first start by creating a basic image from the internet and creating our own, then moving on to enhancing it with augmentations. This is all about creating portals to enhance your art work with digital content and volume.
Introduction
In this course we will be learning how to create augmented reality portal art and augmented picture frames. This is a course for intermediate creators that have experiences with the Unity Game Engine and creating art. You don’t need to be an expert just be familiar with the tools. This is an easy project to follow, though. This is all about creating portals to enhance your art work with digital content and volume. We will first start by creating a basic image from the internet and creating our own, then moving on to enhancing it with augmentations. If you are a visual artist, this will take your art making practice to the next level! We will cover some of my techniques and tips on making your art more immersive using 3D objects, animation, visual effects, and sound using augmented reality.

What are augmented pictures?

Augmented pictures are images that have been enhanced with additional digital elements, such as text, graphics, or 3D models. These elements can be added using augmented reality (AR) technology, which allows the user to view the enhanced image through a device like a smartphone or tablet. Augmented pictures are often used in marketing and advertising, as they allow brands to showcase products or services in a more interactive and engaging way. They can also be used in other contexts, such as art or education, to provide additional information or create immersive experiences for the viewer.

How do you make augmented reality photos?

To create augmented reality photos, you will need to use an augmented reality software or app. Some popular options include ARCore, ARKit, and Vuforia. These tools allow you to add digital elements, such as 3D models, text, and animations, to your photos.

To get started, you will need to install one of these tools and follow the instructions provided to set it up. This may involve creating an account, setting up an image target (a physical object or surface that the AR elements will be anchored to), and importing the digital assets you want to use.

Once you have set up your software or app, you can use it to take photos or import existing photos and add the AR elements to them. This may involve placing the digital assets on the image target, adjusting their size and orientation, and adding any desired animations or effects.

Finally, you can save or share your augmented reality photos as desired. Some software or apps may also allow you to publish them to the web or share them on social media platforms.

Learn how to create immersive augmented reality experiences with your own custom picture frames! In this course, you’ll learn how to use the Unity game engine and Vuforia to create augmented reality portals and picture frames. Suitable for intermediate creators with some experience with Unity and art-making, this course will take you through the process of creating a basic image, enhancing it with augmentations, and using 3D objects, animation, visual effects, and sound to make your art more immersive. By the end of this course, you’ll have a solid foundation in using augmented reality to take your art making practice to the next level.
Projects include:

Setup Unity: In this step, you will learn how to install and set up the Unity game engine, which is the software we will be using to create our augmented reality picture frame.
Import Vuforia: Vuforia is a software development kit (SDK) that enables the creation of augmented reality (AR) applications. In this step, you will learn how to import Vuforia into your Unity project, which will allow you to use its features to create AR experiences.
Setup Image Target: An image target is a physical object that serves as a reference point for the AR experience. In this step, you will learn how to set up an image target in Unity, which will allow you to anchor your AR content to a specific point in the real world.
Make a Scene container with Probuilder: Probuilder is a tool in Unity that allows you to create and edit 3D geometry in your project. In this step, you will learn how to use Probuilder to create a scene container, which will hold all of the AR content for your picture frame.
Mask out the scene with a portal: A portal is a special type of object that serves as a gateway between different parts of an AR experience. In this step, you will learn how to create a portal in Unity using Probuilder, which will allow you to mask out the AR content in your picture frame.
Build a scene with 3D assets and polybrush: Polybrush is a tool in Unity that allows you to paint 3D geometry with different materials and textures. In this step, you will learn how to use polybrush to build and customize the AR scene for your picture frame, using 3D assets and other visual effects.
Adding Animation and Visual Effects: To make your augmented reality picture frame even more immersive, you can add animation and visual effects. In this step, you will learn how to create custom animations and add visual effects such as particle systems and shaders.
Adding Sound: Sound is an important element in any immersive experience, and you can use it to add an extra layer of immersion to your augmented reality picture frame. In this step, you will learn how to add sound effects and music to your scene to create a fully-realized audio experience.

In conclusion, this course teaches you how to create immersive augmented reality picture frames using the Unity game engine and Vuforia. You will learn how to set up Unity and import Vuforia, create an image target, build and customize a 3D scene with Probuilder and polybrush, and enhance your scene with custom animation, visual effects, and sound. By the end of this course, you will have a solid foundation in using augmented reality to take your art making practice to the next level and create engaging, immersive experiences.
